Daniel and Henry have a business meeting with some competitors J.J. Carter and H.M. Tilford, who want to buy Daniel out. The men tell Daniel that they can make him a millionaire. They have ties to the railroad and say that they can move the oil more cheaply and easily than Daniel can. J.J suggests that Daniel retire and spend time with his son. Daniel threatens to cut J.J's throat for telling him how to run his family. Daniel ends up walking out of the meeting.
