Mr. Rochester takes Jane to Mason's room. Mason lies on the bed bleeding. Mr. Rochester tells Jane to try to stop the bleeding while he gets the doctor. When Mr. Rochester returns with Dr. Carter, he asks Mason why he came. Mason says that he thought that he could do some good. Mr. Rochester says that Mason can stay at the doctor's to heal. As soon as Mason is bandaged, they sneak him out.
