A banging window wakes Jane. Hearing the mad laughter, she goes into the hallway, where she sees smoke. Jane rushes into Mr. Rochester's room, his bed's on fire. She wakes him and together, they put the fire out. Coughing, they go into a drawing room for a drink. Mr. Rochester wants to know what happened. Jane says she heard a strange laugh...Mr. Rochester tells her not to move and rushes from the room.
