After lessons, Jane draws. Jane asks Helen to remove her bonnet so she can draw a portrait of her. Mr. Brocklehurst finds Helen's curly red hair sinful. Miss Temple (Amanda Root) one of the other teachers tries to intervene, but Mr. Brocklehurst declares Helen's hair should be cut off. Jane has her hair cut in solidarity.
