1898 Daniel Plainview works his silver mine. After using dynamite, Daniel falls, injuring his leg. Daniel slowly, painfully digs himself loose and hoists himself to the surface. Once up top, Daniel can't walk, the only way he can move is to push himself on his back through the dirt. The only way to get back to civilization is through the desert.
