Sonia prices the piece with a careful eye and tells Sender he overpaid for it. Sender wants to know why she didn't go into the business. Sonia replies that her parents wanted her to marry a great scholar. Sender asks if Mendel is a great scholar, Sonia replies that it's too early to tell but she knows Mendel is a holy man. Sender strikes Sonia dumb by asking if she's okay with being the wife of a holy man.
