Colonel Brynner arrives to the island by helicopter, to monitor the plans to close down the operation. Meanwhile, Dr. Long wants to test a new idea for his experiment. The experiment goes awry, killing every soldier exposed to it. Dr. Long and Colonel Brynner survive. Brynner takes the blame for the experiment, loses his position, pay, and receives 10 years in military prison.
