Meg and Charles Wallace crawl out from underneath the table. The snak -like creature appears to be dying. Together Charles Wallace and Meg run through the concrete tunnels. Meg tries to save one of the boys stuck there, but he seems reluctant. They walk through the destroyed lobby of the Central Central Intelligence building. Meg stands up and lets the people there know they're now free. She tosses the basketball to the boy, who now plays with it differently than he used to. He tosses the ball to an adult in a suit who starts bouncing it too. They all smile.
