Meg, Calvin and Charles Wallace walk past a darkly-lit movie theater in the eerie suburban town. The other kids outside the theater look at them weirdly as they pass. Movie posters line the walls and the marquis shows what films are playing. Meg opens a magazine to an article on what's hot and what's not. Charles Wallace has an odd interaction with the kids outside the theater. One of them points down the street lined with neon signs to a large tower looming in the distance. The black town car shows up. Meg, Calvin and Charles Wallace scurry away, passing signs for motels and auto repair shops. The two uniformed men in the car appear to be police officers.
