It's dark. Meg, Calvin and Charles Wallace walk from the dunes into an eerie suburban neighborhood with dark clouds and a bright light hovering in the distance. Thunder and lightning clap. The streets and sidewalks are nearly empty. A woman in a pink jumpsuit exercises on her driveway, jumping rope. A smug teenager bounces a basketball while another kid bounces a ball against a garage door. Yet another boy practices dribbling. They all look the same, wearing grey hooded sweatshirts. A black town car arrives at one of the driveways and picks up one of the boys before driving away down the street. Each driveway now has a kid in a grey sweatshirt bouncing basketballs in sync with each other.
