Meg, Calvin and Mrs. Whatsit continue paddling deeper into the cave and ultimately arrive at an opening where the Happy Medium sits looking into a crystal ball. He laughs, making the rest of them laugh too. He waves for his visitors to come join him. Mrs. Which materializes and asks for the Happy Medium's help. The crystal ball floats up in the air and shows a young child falling off a swing, making the Happy Medium laugh. Mrs. Which asks him to show the children the darkness. The stormy cloud nebula appears inside the crystal ball along with a bright burning star. The star explodes and gets swallowed by the darkness. The crystal ball then shows Calvin's mom yelling at his brothers. Meg squeezes Calvin's hand tighter. Next, Meg's mom appears in the ball, missing her husband Jack. Mrs. Which disappears and the Happy Medium falls asleep. Mrs. Whatsit escorts Meg and Calvin back outside. Special effects
