Night. Outside crickets make noise and the crow lingers near the house in the dark. In the kitchen, Calvin helps Dana and the rest of the family with doing the dishes and cleaning up after dinner. The twins sit with the dog, hugging and petting him. Hearing voices, Charles Wallace takes Calvin by the hand, leading him into another room. Charles Wallace shows Calvin a home video featuring Jack pretending to swim through a hallway and playing with the kids at a playground. A U2 rock band poster is on the wall behind the TV. Meg waves at the image of her father Jack waving back before the home video ends and static white noise comes on-screen. Mysterious eyes and a ghostly face appear in the white noise - it's Mrs. Whatsit with an urgent message. Meg, Charles Wallace and Calvin grab their coats and run out of the house, even though the wall clock shows it's past Charles Wallace's bedtime.
