Over pictures of the Civil War, a narrator explains that the Texas Rangers disbanded to go fight for the Confederacy and Texas fell into lawlessness. While Texas Ranger Leander McNelly was gone, his wife and children were kidnapped by bandits. Subtitle: 1875, 10 years after the Civil War and the Governor of Texas wants McNelly to head up a new band of Rangers. Leander McNelly works his small homestead. Horsemen approach, it's local cattle king Richard Dukes. Richard says that the Governor just wants to talk to Leander, he doesn't have to make a decision to head up the Rangers right now.
