Mike returns to his apartment and checks his machine. He has no messages. He boredly sits on the couch and then after debating for a moment, calls Nikki. He tries to leave a message on her machine, but it cuts him off while he's reciting his number so he calls again and the same thing happens again. Finally, Mike is able to leave his number and then he calls again trying to explain that he's not desperate. Nikki picks up the line and tells him not to ever call her again.
