Wessex announces to Viola that the playwright is dead. She thinks he means Will. Viola sadly goes to Marlowe's funeral, accompanied by her nurse and Wessex. During the service Will shows up. Wessex thinks he's seeing a ghost and runs away. Amazed that he's alive, Viola runs into Will's arms. Will glumly tells her that he killed Marlowe. Will and Viola sit by the river discussing Marlowe's death. Will explains about his wife and begs Viola not to marry Wessex.
