Intercut between scenes. The actors hang out at a tavern. Thomas is caught off guard by the whores propositioning the men. Meanwhile an actor runs down the street. During banter, it's mentioned that Will is married. Thomas is hurt and runs out. Will tries to follow but is cornered by the actor who's come with bad news. Marlowe is dead, stabbed to death in a tavern. Will takes the news hard, realizing that his lying to Wessex about his name probably played a role in Marlowe's death. He staggers outside and vomits. Will goes to church and prays for Marlowe.
