Wessex has been waiting 2 hours for Viola and can't be pacified by Nurse. Viola suddenly rushes in, dressed as a female, but still with her beard and mustache on. Nurse hurries over and rubs the facial hair off before Wessex can look up and see it. Wessex announces to Viola the Queen has granted him permission and they are to wed 2 weeks from Saturday. Viola is stunned and tells Wessex that she doesn't love him. He's fine with that. She's gaining class, he's gaining money. Once married they will go to Virginia to oversee his tobacco estates and live there for a few years. Wessex kisses Viola, she fights him off and slaps him. However, she says that she will do her duty when the time comes.
