Hurt, Will burns his new play and goes to a tavern where he lies to Philip that he's nearly finished with the play. Philip stands on a chair and announces to all those present that he'll be auditioning actors in half an hour. Will runs into Christopher Marlowe, a rival playwright at the bar. Marlowe's finishing a new play. Will confesses to him that he hasn't done much on his new play. Marlowe offers some good suggestions in the direction to take the play in.
