Arlo and Mason row down the river, using the water to keep the compact cool. Brynner convinces the sheriff in pursuit of Arlo and Mason that he is a special forces agent. With the sheriff on his side, Brynner continues looking for them. Colonel Virtelli arrives at the crime scene at the laboratory, and upon finding out that Elvis has been taken, alerts the cavalry. Arlo and Mason become more friendly with each other.
