A tough, tattooed Dauntless leader, Eric introduces himself to the group and has them gather at the roof's edge. He tells them that to join the Dauntless, they will need to jump, if they don't have the guts to jump, they don't belong in Dauntless. He asks for a volunteer to go first, after a long moment Tris says she'll go first. She steps onto the edge of the building, there's a hole in the roof below, it's a long way down. Tris jumps and lands on webbing stretched across the hole. She is welcomed into Dauntless by Four, the next initiate lands in the webbing.
