Penelope rereads the book and Max plays poker. The next day, Max meets Lemon before visiting Penelope. As her parents watch, Max wants Penelope to guess which musical instrument he can play by attempting many (bass, drums, guitar, and saxophone). They play chess through the mirror. Max begs Penelope to emerge from behind the mirror but confesses she is not missing much.
