The next morning, Bobby tries to hitch a ride to Cornwall from different truckers. He finally gets a ride from an Irishman. He tells the man he's going to find his grandfather once he gets to Cornwall. They see a fox on the road and the trucker wants to run it over, but Bobby doesn't want him to so he grabs the wheel. They fight over it and the truck crashes, jack-knifing and spilling its cargo everywhere. The truck driver is pinned and dying.
