Paris, France. A surveillance team spies on Elise Clifton-Ward. At a cafe, she receives an envelope from a messenger; the French Police notify Scotland Yard. Elise reads the letter, it is from her ex-lover Alexander Pearce. He warns her that the police are watching her and asks her to trust him. She is to take the 8:20 train and finds a passenger who's his height and weight. Elise burns the letter and walks away from the table. The police rescue the ashes and follow Elise through the streets of Paris. Elise takes the subway and loses the police.
