Captain Beams enters Hawkeye's quarters and arrests him for stirring up the militia men to desert. Col. Munro says Hawkeye needs to hang for his crime. Cora says if Haweye is guilty, then she is guilty as well. She goes to Hawkeye's jail cell, crying. Cora asks him why he didn't leave when he had the chance. Hawkeye tells her he didn't want to leave her. Also Hawkeye warns her to stay close to her father when the fort falls to the French.
ICONIC QUOTE:
"He saved us. We're alive only because of him."
"The man encouraged the colonials to desert in this very room and in my presence! Sir! He is guilty of sedition. He must be tried and hanged like any other criminal, regardless of what he did for my children."
"But he knew the consequences, and he stayed. Are those the actions of a criminal?"
(Cora Munro, Colonel Munro)
"And who empowered these colonials to pass judgement on England's policies, and to come and go without so much as a "by your leave"?
"They do not live their lives "by your leave"! They hack it out of the wilderness with their own two hands, bearing their children along the way!"
(Maj. Duncan Heyward, Cora Munro)
"Duncan, you are a man with a few admirable qualities, but taken as a whole, I was wrong to have thought so highly of you."
(Cora Munro)
"Justice? If that's justice than the sooner French guns blow the English out of America the better it will be for the people here!"
"You do not know what you're saying, girl!"
"Yes I do, I know exactly what what I'm saying, and if it is sedition, than I am guilty of sedition too!"
(Colonel Munro, Cora Munro)
