The next morning Billy is buried....but an unknown figure steals a horse from Pat. In the present Bill, who's been narrating the whole story says that he never stole a horse from someone he didn't like and he loved Pat like a brother. Bill begins to walk off, Phalen follows, calling him Billy. A montage with title cards showing what happened to various people. Dave was beheaded after crossing into Mexico. Pat's book was a failure and he was shot to death in 1908. Bill went before the New Mexico Governor in 1950; his story was discounted and his pardon request denied. He died soon after.
