The gang mourns Tom's death. Billy admits that the Mexican Blackbird trail doesn't exist, he just made that up to get the gang back together. Enraged, Doc is angered and pulls a gun on Billy, but can't shoot him. Doc tries to leave for home, but he is shot by one of Pat's men. Doc sacrifices himself to enable the gang to escape. Billy gets pinned down by firepower. Dave wants to leave him behind, but Chavez and Hendry try to turn back, but are out gunned and take off. Chavez, gets shot in the process. Billy is captured.
