Doc recites poetry to a whore. Looking out a window, Tom notices a mob and alerts the rest of the gang. Jane goes out to speak to the mob and they take her hostage. Sheriff Carlyle says that he's coming in to talk and if he's harmed, Jane will be strung up. Sheriff Carlyle proposes a deal. The town folk outside want blood, if they turn over Chavez, the rest of the gang can go free. Billy dressed Carlyle in Chavez's blanket and hat and pushes him out the door. The mob shoots him, mistaking him for Chavez. The mob, realizing who they've killed, disperses.
