Doc crouches behind a rock, his hands looped around it, waiting for Billy to shoot his handcuffs apart. Dave doesn't want to ride with Doc because he's a tenderfoot and he's prejudiced against Chavez. Billy mentions the Mexican Blackbird, a broken trail that only few people know that leads down to Mexico. After Doc asking several times, Billy finally shoots Doc free. Doc tries to give Billy his pocket watch in exchange for a horse. Billy gives a rude reply and Doc & Billy get into a knock down fight. They finally calm down when the other men hold them apart. Though Pat explains about the militia after them, Doc choose not to ride out with the gang. Doc rides in the other direction, but turns back to join the gang when he sees riders chasing him.
