All the guests sit at a long table in the ballroom hall. The king talks of improvements throughout Siam, and the elephant ivory market. When it is discovered that Prince Chululongkorn has given his ivory pendant to Tuptim, the king learns of their relationship, and orders her brought forth to be whipped. He changes his mind at the last moment and Tuptim escapes.
