Two sheriffs investigate the murder of Dr. Long, and one of them begins to pursue the ice cream truck. Brynner intercepts Mason's call to the police, and offers them money for the compact, named 'Elvis', and when that fails, threatens to destroy them. When they ignore him, he blows up a gas truck in front of them, destroying the road. The truck nearly goes off a cliff. After barely making it past a hole in the road, Mason and Arlo are shot at, nearly collide with other trucks, and end up flipping over, completely blocking the road. An oncoming truck hits them. They pack the compact in a ice cream bag, Mason steals a boat and they set off down a hill, toward a river.
