Desert landscape with clouds in the sky. Over credits Michael drives his 1959 red Cadillac Coupe DeVille through the desert. With pincers and tail, a black scorpion fights an epic battle with a white scorpion. The sun moves across the sky. The victorious scorpion scuttles over to a sun bleached skeleton to escape Michael's car. The DeVille crushes a skull under its wheels. Smoking a cigar, Michael gets out of his car. He's at a motel, in the tiny town of Rosewood. Young Jesse picks up a scorpion by the tail and puts it in a collecting jar. Michael catches Jesse stealing a lug nut from his car and ends up chasing him. Michael runs into Cybil, Jess's mother. Cybil scolds Jesse and returns the lug to Michael. Michael and Cybil have coffee and smoke.While Michael and Cybil have head banging sex, Jesse crawls along the floor so they won't see him, he steals money from Michael's wallet.
