At the motel, Dwayne argues with Elmoro, the desk clerk, and sticks his fingers in his mouth. Maria, the manager, arrives and Dwayne sticks his fingers in her mouth as well. He asks them "Who am I?". Elmoro brings Dwayne to a room and Dwayne gets in bed, pulling the blanket completely over himself. Kilgore arrives as the motel and looks at himself in a mirror, envisioning a tropical island again. Kilgore rants to Maria that he has come to the arts festival to be acknowledged as a great artist. Maria recognizes Kilgore, which surprises him. Eliot arrives and meets Kilgore.
