On the battlefield, Hawkeye loads his rifle. Indians try charging the fort and British soldiers, led by Duncan, fire at them. French soldiers arrive on the flanks to reinforce the Indians. The British fire at them as well. This is the diversion the couriers need to escape in the hopes of getting news to the other fort that they need help. Hawkeye takes aim at a man and fires, pulling off a difficult shot.
