Over a humble dinner in a dim room lit only with a single light, Tris' parents ask about her test results and warn her that things must look proper when she tells them she left the test early because she got sick.. The Erudite faction is attempting to take control of the government from the Abnegation. Their friend Marcus is under attack and has been accused of mistreating his son. The son defected. Tris studies her reflection in her spoon. After dinner, the family washes up. Andrew tells his kids to get some rest, the ceremony starts early tomorrow. The family hugs before Tris' parents go to bed. Caleb tells Tris than she has to think of the family, but also to think of herself during tomorrow's ceremony.
