In the police station interrogation, Kit confesses Barnaby's assistants, Tom and Theo, were the masterminds behind the film and wanted it to blend with real life. Kit was supposed to be upset at Carmen and Barnaby's relationship so shoots him, but it was supposed to be pretend for publicity. The gun should have shot blanks but Barnaby somehow fights for his life in the hospital. Theo had another gun at the banquet, but really Carmen is the one that shoots Barnaby dead. Kit and Carmen schemed to kill Barnaby and frame Tom and Theo. The couple attend the premiere with fame and without those that tortured them.
