Emma plays piano the next day. Darwin goes out to the water tower. It's used to dump water on him as a potential cure for his ailment. This is intercut with him writing his book. He writes about evolution and we see horrific images of animals. It melds into a shot of Annie shouting and he wakes up from a nightmare.
