Bobby is playing with dominos in the cabin that night. Mr. Summers returns. He asks Bobby if he knows why he does what he does, why he cares for the animals. It's because he loves the animals, he thinks they are equal to humans. Mr. Summers tells his own story about how he used to be married, but his wife was a deceiver. He was suicidal. He killed his wife instead of himself, took his money out of the bank and ran away, to live in the cabin. He shows Bobby all the money he has hidden. He tells him that they have enough to live there forever and that maybe he should let The Fat have the store. He knows Bobby promised his mom, but reasons that she'd probably be OK with it because of how happy he is in the cabin.
