In the evening Herman calls Yadwiga from a payphone and tells her he's in Pittsburgh. Herman tries to make love to Masha, but she's sulky. She's mad that Herman called Yadwiga. She screams that she never wants to see Herman again. Herman goes for a walk on the dock and has a hallucination of the concentration camp. He bangs his head on a pole. Masha lets Herman make love to her.
