Grown-up David signs copies of his new novel, but no one shows up; everyone wants Stephen King instead. Then his son's school calls; David has to pick up Ben for bad behavior. David gets a letter from Hastings Middle School asking him to return there to teach a class. He agrees to do it to get Ben on the right track. David and Ben drive cross-country to Hastings and there's awkward attempts at father-son bonding.
