Jerry goes back to the crime scene to look for clues. Then he learns they arrested the drifter who fled the scene. He goes back to the station where the drifter is being held. They review his criminal record and begin an interrogation; officers Strom and Stan are in attendance. The man confesses to a rape, but it's unclear if it was a previous rape on his record or the rape of the little girl who was killed. Stan tries to get him to confess to the killing. But Jerry thinks Stan is leading the suspect. However, the man confesses to the killing. Also, they are told the little girl had chocolate in her stomach and they found candy wrappers in the man's truck. The man grabs a deputy's gun and shoots himself in the head right in the holding cell hallway.
